PartnerJim Chapnick joined Brown, Kaplan & Liss LLP at the end of 2000, bringing 32 years of experience to Evanston’s largest accounting firm. Whether working with an individual or a business client, Jim stresses the importance of creating a partnership with his clients. Leaning back in his chair, Jim exudes the sense of calm and confidence that he brings to each professional relationship he builds. Having worked on audits for companies ranging in size from very small to publicly held and “everything in between”, Jim is eager to help both individuals and corporations with their taxes, reviews, and audits. Jim’s philosophy toward building relationships with his clients was shaped in part by his experience as an IRS agent earlier in his career. Uncomfortable with the hostility tax payers exhibited, Jim gravitated to those areas in accounting in which he could use his curiosity, superb analytical ability, and highly personable way to help people achieve their goals. Jim says that he shares a common philosophy with his partners and associates at Brown, Kaplan & Liss. “There is just an attitude here of wanting to help people succeed,” he says, praising the high standards of quality that Paul Brown has made a part of his firm since its inception. In addition to having a wealth of experience preparing taxes, IRS tax exams, audits, reviews and compilations, Jim has been involved with many special projects including projections and analyses regarding the buying and selling of businesses. A world traveler in his spare time, there’s not a corner on the globe that Jim wouldn’t like to visit. “Except Antarctica. Too cold,” he says with a shudder. An avid photographer, Jim expresses a particular interest in photographing the architecture and sights of those places he visits.
