Partner Possibly the only newspaper boy in the Midwest to set up an accounting system for his paper route, Jim Pepa has been putting things in balance since the fourth grade. Perhaps the obvious follow-up for a person with such auspicious beginnings, Jim earned his B.S. in accounting at the University of Dayton in 1983 and his C.P.A. certificate from the State of Illinois in 1988. Jim brings over 17 years of widely varied accounting experience to Brown, Kaplan & Liss. With experience in governmental auditing, corporate accounting, nonprofit administration and public accounting, Jim offers his clients a wealth of diverse knowledge and a down-to-earth approach. As the resident expert on QuickBooks, Jim enjoys using his expertise and experience to teach clients those accounting basics which are important to them. With his arms open wide and an appreciative grin across his face, Jim remarks that Brown, Kaplan & Liss is a “great place to work, even during tax season!” Sixty-hour weeks are made tolerable within this close-knit environment of friendly technical experts and well-rounded professionals. Jim’s passion and talent for unlocking the world of accounting secrets is reflected in his perennial choice of reading material: mysteries! Jim views most accounting problems as “whodunits” that require the same fact-finding and problem solving skills as mystery novels. Jim is involved with ManKind Project International, a nonprofit organization committed to the empowerment of men to missions of service. While Jim enjoys helping his clients achieve harmony and balance, he brings these same aspects to his own life by composing music on acoustic guitar.
